Commercial Reflection

Image
This commercial was my first official project in the AICE Media Studies class, so it was definitely a unique and new experience. Throughout this project, I learned to use the app Capcut to edit everything together. I also got more familiar with the screen recording feature on my phone. While putting the project together, I learned more about how to use transitions and adjust their timing. In addition to transitions, I got more familiar with the elements that Capcut editing has to offer. These elements included the keyframe tool and the trimming. I also learned how to better align objects, as I found that Capcut is very sensitive when moving clips around. At the end of my commercial, I also learned how to fade out audio so as to not abruptly cut off the song at the end.     In my next project, I think that I could be more versatile with the transitions that I used. Capcut offers a multitude of premade transitions to add to your projects that I could utilize in the future. Addition

Production Blog: Text Overlay and Finishing Touches

On the last day of production I was a bit rushed to finish. The prior days and this day I was extremely packed with homework from my various AP and honors classes. Besides schoolwo rk, I also had drama club after school and then work right after that. I didn’t end up getting home to finish my commercial until pretty late at night. To make this situation even worse, I had started to get a slight cough the day before that worse ned. I came home feeling unwell and eventually found that I had a 101.3-degree fever and a splitting headache. Nonetheless, I had a project to finish . Luckily, I had completed a good portion of the commercial in the past few days, so my work was less strenuous. I realized at first that I had not yet played through the entirety of the commercial to check its continuity and playthrough. I started with this- a good thing I did- and found that the two pictures were choppily moving around the screen. I must have forgotten to do those two pictures earlier when I

Production Blog: Music, Transitions, and Credits

I started today by picking up where I had left off looking for where to obtain the music for my commercial. I was considering going to SoundCloud and trying the screen recording method, but I figured that wouldn't work either. Then I realized that I could get it off of YouTube by also screen recording it and extracting the sound into Capcut , so that i s what I did. Once I got the music into my project, I was able to trim the length of each clip to match certain beats in the song. After trimming the lengths of everything and mapping out when things would end, come in, show up, and everything like that, I realized that the pictures look ed boring just sitting there still on the screen. To fix this, I first tried making the pictures lightly float around the screen by using keyframes and moving the pictur e a little bit in different directions to simulate this. After I did this to three pictures , I wasn’t liking how stiff the motions looked, so I undid it all to try to find a

Production Blog: Editing Pictures and Videos

This is the day that I started actually putting together my commercial! Because of my research and planning prior to starting the commercial, I didn’t need to spend any time choosing what pictures to put in my commercial when I finally took to Capcut . The first thing I did to start my creation was edit the quality and elements of the pictures. For example, I edit ed the brightness on most of the pictures because they looked better a bit dimmer, and were too bright for my liking. I also attempted to put one of the lower - quality pictures into a photo enhancer website. However, when I put it through the website, I was unable to save the processed picture without a watermark or paying. I looked for other websites and none were free, so I ended up having to find a new picture. Luckily, I had another picture of my cat Lucy on my back that was a bit better visual quality, but the artistic quality of the photo was definitely le sser than the one before. Even so, I decided a hig

Production Blog: Choosing the Software

Image
Today I started the beginning steps of my commercial by exploring the different kinds of editing software. I first thought back to my communications technology class in my freshman year when the main thing we used in that class was Photoshop. I then recalled that we had done a section where we practiced using Photoshop to edit and put together videos so I assumed that would be the software I would use. I went a nd downloaded it to my computer and signed in with the school account I had used, just to find out that the subscription used for my comm tech class had expired. I looked into the price for an out-of-school subsc ription which ended up being to o expensive, so I had to find other options.        I kept looking in the field of Adobe and found Premiere Pro. I wanted to try if this would work because one of my friends edits with this software and they look very professional and clean. Unfortunately, I was met with the same subscription prices as Photoshop, so I had to find
