Production Blog: Text Overlay and Finishing Touches

On the last day of production I was a bit rushed to finish. The prior days and this day I was extremely packed with homework from my various AP and honors classes. Besides schoolwork, I also had drama club after school and then work right after that. I didn’t end up getting home to finish my commercial until pretty late at night. To make this situation even worse, I had started to get a slight cough the day before that worsened. I came home feeling unwell and eventually found that I had a 101.3-degree fever and a splitting headache. Nonetheless, I had a project to finish. Luckily, I had completed a good portion of the commercial in the past few days, so my work was less strenuous. I realized at first that I had not yet played through the entirety of the commercial to check its continuity and playthrough. I started with this- a good thing I did- and found that the two pictures were choppily moving around the screen. I must have forgotten to do those two pictures earlier when I was giving the photos an animation to have them float smoothly. I went right away to the separate project and gave the two photos the animation and fixed the problem.

With the being fixed, I moved on to my last step of the project. There was still next needed to be placed on each picture to explain what the picture had the show about myself. For the first picture, I decided to make the text “my sister and I at the beach.” This text would make it clear to watchers who is in the photo, and would show the relationship between my sister and me. For the second photo’s text, I put “church piano performance.” I chose this to give more information on the photo, as it may be bit hard for some to tell what is going on. I made sure to include the word performance to make it obvious that I enjoy performing. I placed it in the top left corner, different from the previous in the bottom left, so that it could be more easily visible and fill up empty space with balance. The next photo’s text I inserted was “a cat lover at heart” which I put in the top right corner. The text's purpose was to reveal yet another thing about myself, which is that I love cats. The next photo’s text was “loves mall trips with friends.” This text shows both the location and another fact about me, which is what the commercial is all about. The last photo’s text I made read “my sister and I at her graduation.” I had it say that to show the lasting relationship with my sister by making it known that that photo was at her graduation.

Next, I moved on to my last step which was the text for the videos. I had empty space on the top and bottom of both videos so I already knew where I would put the text. I captioned the first video “fun with friends is a must” to again show how I love being with my friends. The second video’s text is “live music and concerts” which was chosen to show what the video is portraying and that I love live music and concerts. After putting the text in and choosing the font and color which I wanted to remain constant throughout the commercial, there was still an empty space with no media before the credits. With this, I decided to do something to engage the audience to contrast the theme of being all about myself. For this I asked the audience a question, that question being “now, who are you?” I really like this part of the commercial because it is very direct and almost eerie, again, starkly contrasting the upbeat feel the production has kept throughout. And with this, I was complete!
