Group Blog
For the Final task, I am working in a group. The members of this group are Riley McClanahan, and Marissa and Mackena Modafferri. These are actually the same members that I had done the music video with. I decided to stick with the same group for this task as opposed to working by myself. The reason for this is because of work, familiarity, characters, and ideas. When going through the overview of the final task, I was increasingly seeing the amount of work this project would require which led me to believe that having the most amount of people would again be beneficial. Although in the last project, I felt a bit like I had been doing the bulk of the work in my group, I still decided to stick with them because it did all work out in the end. This also has to do with the familiarity aspect of my decision. Because I have worked with them before, I now know how everyone will act and contribute when we do this a second time. I know to prepare myself more time to do the work and for transportation situations. As for the characters part, I think it is beneficial to have the most people in your group to be able to fill character roles, because as you can use people not in your group to film, they may not be as dedicated or available as the people actually in the class and working on the project. Building off this "the more the merrier" idea, having more people allows for more creativity and ideas to be brought to the table. This also allows us greater autonomy in school to plan, because if you have more people, that is more study halls we could potentially go to if another group member's doesn't work out.
Additionally, Marissa and Mackena are in a different class period, which even though it will definitely pose its own challenges, may be beneficial sometimes. Because they are in a different class period, we will be able to have work done on our project in more than one time of the day as well as outside of school.
Riley and I had really been the backbone of our music video and through the experience, we had gotten to know each other more. We had found that we worked well together, making up for what the other lacked in a way. Because of this, we decided that no matter what we would remain in a group with one another. We took a few minutes to decide whether or not we should work just us without the other two girls, replace them with a new member, or stay as is. We considered another one of our friends who we know is a very hard worker and always gets things done timely and efficiently. I asked her if she would be willing, but she had had a very bad experience working in a group for her music video and decided that she wanted to work alone. This eliminated our option of choosing a new member, which ultimately was the largest factor in our decision to stay with the group we had already.
