Production Blog: Difficulties With Startup

It's the start of a brand new project, which means it's the start of brand new challenges. My group and I had finished with our planning for the opening sequence which we felt confident in. We had all contributed to writing the research we needed for our title design, genre research, and scheduling and backups. After we completed the storyboard, we had planned to start filming that following week so as to now waste time. We all learned this less collectively in our music video, so we were eager to get a head start. Despite our ambitions, the universe ultimately had other plans for us.

That week, members of my group were consistently down for the count with illness. I had a feeling this would happen since I noticed starting the week we completed our storyboard that something was going around at school. For me specifically, I had the unfortunate luck of getting sick almost right as another member would get healthy again. What was even worse was that I had gotten sick with Covid, which meant I couldn't just suck it up and tough it out. I had to quarantine for five days which had eliminated any chance we would get to filming.

I attempted to find any way to help from home stuck in my room but alas, filming is an in-person production that needs collaborative, non-virtual efforts. So in defeat, we were forced to give up on the idea of getting to film any time soon.

Further hindrance was added to our schedules with prior commitments, work, and of course, more illness. Transportation hasn't been a problem yet, but I definitely see it in the near future for me. Additionally, being out of school for so many days meant I had a lot of catch-up work to do, further filling my schedule. When I was finally cured and Covid-negative again, my boss at work saw that as her sign to fill my hours at work. I have piano every Tuesday after school which further cuts down our filming opportunities. Additionally, all of us are officers of our own school clubs, which means we are obligated to attend each and every meeting.

All of these disturbances to our film schedule, prior obligations, extracurriculars, and natural occurrences made it really difficult for us to begin our final task. Hopefully once we get off the ground it will be natural and smooth sailing from there!
